Sandra White MSP has launched a Parliamentary motion in celebration of the University of Glasgow’s 567th birthday.

Sandra White MSP for Glasgow Kelvin said:

“I am very proud of the University of Glasgow’s history and status as an institution which has inspired generations of change-makers, and which continues to make an incredible impact on the world.

“I wanted to take this moment to reflect upon the great history of this world renowned University and its importance to the city of Glasgow and the Kelvin constituency. My very best to all the students, staff, and alumni of the University of Glasgow as this great institution reflects on its past and looks to an exciting future.”

Title: University of Glasgow’s 567th Birthday

Motion Text:
That the Parliament commends the University of Glasgow on reaching its 567th year with huge success, including being named Scottish University of the Year by The Times and The Sunday Times Good University Guide 2018 and being placed in the top 80 in the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings; notes that the university was founded in 1451 and is the fourth oldest university in the English-speaking world; understands it attracts students from more than 140 countries worldwide, has more than 26,500 undergraduate and postgraduate students and is a major employer in the city of Glasgow with more than 7,600 staff, including 2,370 active researchers, and wishes the students and staff continued success with their contribution to what it considers is Scotland’s vibrant and world-leading higher education sector.
